As a company, our objective is to develop a new generation of context aware mobile applications that leverage the combination of always-on internet access, location-based services, and social media to give our users the ability to truly explore the world around them.
Today, we use our mobile phones to text friends, tweet our thoughts, check-in to places, and update our status in order to keep others informed of our every activity as part of our virtual social network. But in the process, we often ignore the people, places and things that are physically around us. Ironically, the people around us -- those who are at the same place at the same time, possibly sharing the same experience -- represent what could be a very real, interesting, and dynamic social network.
We believe that there is an opportunity to use technology to put local society back into social
networking. In fact, if
opportunity is defined as a convergence of the right people at
the right place at the right time, then Soksemo represents a very real opportunity. The goal of
Soksemo is to enable a new form of
social exploration whereby users can discover and
interact with other nearby people, places and things, while at the same time maintaining personal
privacy through a variety of security controls.
